The Unmade Archive
Ongoing project, begun 2024. Blank square.
A visual placeholder for all the work I have not made.
The projects in this archive are real. They had titles, materials, timelines, dimensions. Some had sketches. Some had grant deadlines that passed. What they did not have was time, because the hours they required were already occupied: by a child who needed to be picked up, by a shift that could not be missed, by a body too depleted at the end of the day to get to the studio. By the particular arithmetic of being an artist who is also a primary caregiver and a full-time employee, where the remainder after those two claims is zero.
The archive holds that remainder. It is not a record of failure. It is a record of what a practice actually costs when no one is subsidizing it.
